The creative and performing arts have been a central part of Joan’s life since she began accordion lessons at age 6, as was the tradition for all children in her large, extended Eastern European family. Then, choirs and choral groups. Baton twirling. Dramatic interpretation in high school. Guitar. Clarinet. Community theater. A folk duo. An a capella singing group and musical comedy in college. Cabarets, solo gigs, and weddings. Stabs at the drums, sewing, quilting, sculpture, Chinese brush painting, book binding, and water colors. Theater going, museums, concerts around the world. Beloved Tanglewood. Table setting as everyday art.
For more than twenty years, Joan has been captivated by the idea of photography as a history of moments in time — a way to slow the pace of life and to see the beauty in the simple and too often overlooked.
